- Devin started his career by joining the Logistics Readiness at Holloman Air Force Base in New Mexico from 2010 until his court-martial in 2014 after he assaulted his first wife and child.
- Despite being an atheist, in 2013, in June 2013, he taught the Bible school children at Kingsville First Baptist Church.
- In 2016, he bought a Ruger-AR556 rifle from an Academy Sports & Outdoors store in San Antonio, and even posted about it on Facebook.
- On November 5, 2017, at around 11:30 am, he walked into the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs during morning worship and ruthlessly shot dead at least 26 people and injured 24 others.
- According to reports, after leaving the church, Devin was confronted by a localite who took his rifle and followed him. Devin tried to run away and crashed his car near the county line, where he was later found dead.
