- He was born in Washington on December 12, 1923, but he moved to Rosebud Indian Reservation in South Dakota when he was eight years old and then again, finally relocated to Springfield, Missouri with his family.
- In 1929, Bob’s father Byron Barker fell from the top of a tower and suffered an injury and later succumbed to his injuries the same year.
- Bob went to serve in World War II as a fighter pilot in the Navy in the midst of his education in Drury College, but after the war ended, he returned back to his studies.
