- Claire was born with a severe disease- Cystic fibrosis (CF), a condition that affects breathing and digestion. At the time of birth, she had the life expectancy of only 5 years old.
- She grew up in a broken family as her parents got separated when she was 3 years old, but her parents always came together in her care.
- She was a born artist and made her appearance in ‘The Music Man,’ at around 4 years of age.
- When she turned 13, she had a routine surgery that led to a blood infection that caused lung failure after which she was placed in a medically-induced coma. Though there was only 1% chance of her survival, she miraculously came out of it after 16 days.
- Her survival inspired her to start- ‘Claire’s Place Foundation,’ a non-profit organization to help the people affected by terminal illness, specifically cystic fibrosis.
- She was proficient in ‘American sign language.’
- She was a voracious reader and wrote books like- ‘Every Breath I Take,’ and Surviving and Thriving with Cystic Fibrosis.
- Despite facing a life-threatening disease, she always remained positive, smiling and motivated people with her speeches and activities. As a TEDx speaker, she gave motivational speeches at numerous conferences worldwide, and as a YouTube star, she around 250,000 subscribers.
- Music was her biggest stressbuster and was part of Philips “Breathless Choir” as a solo artist.
- She was an avid dog lover and had a dog named- ‘Daisy.’
- Due to her life treatning disease, she spent the majority of her life in hospital.
- On August 26, 2018, Wineland suffered a stroke due to a blood-clot that “stopped blood flow to the right side of her brain.” On September 2, 2018, at 6:00 pm, she took her last breath at the UC San Diego Thornton Pavillion, a week after undergoing a lung transplant.

I have found a new hero, her name is Claire, I am a US Marine and a Retired Police Officer, and just recently viewed on of Claires Videos on U-Tube, I became instantly in love with her, as I’m sure many have. She is my new hero, and forever. She is dynamic and so soul filled, a little angel, rest in Peace Claire, YOU are MY HERO
