He was born in Washington on December 12, 1923, but he moved to Rosebud Indian Reservation in South Dakota when he was eight years old and then again, finally relocated to Springfield, Missouri with his family.

In 1929, Bob’s father Byron Barker fell from the top of a tower and suffered an injury and later succumbed to his injuries the same year.

Bob went to serve in World War II as a fighter pilot in the Navy in the midst of his education in Drury College, but after the war ended, he returned back to his studies.

He appeared in the episode called “Denver McKee” and played a character named Mort.

He got married to Dorothy Jo in 1945 with whom he met in high school, but unfortunately, their marriage ended in 1981 when Dorothy Jo died of lung cancer and he never remarried again.

Barker has a rabbit named “Mr. Rabbit,” who is 10 and a half years old; such an old rabbit is rarely found.

He is a crazy pet lover and had a dog named “Jesse” also, but he suffered from cancer and is no more.

In 1972, he started hosting game show “The Price Is Right,” which became the TV’s longest-running game show in the air.

The enthusiastic Barker also hosted the Miss Universe and Miss U.S.A. show every year from 1966 to 1988, but left the time he got involved in a dispute with the organizers of the show. He fought for animal rights but they refused to remove fur coats from the prize packages, which was honored to the winners.

He is a fitness freak and exercises every day and is also very much conscious regarding his diet-routine.

In 1995, he founded the “DJ&T Foundation” and named it in the memory of his late wife, Dorothy Jo, and his mother, Matilda ‘Tilly’ Valandra. This foundation focuses on giving funds to low-cost animal clinics.

Bob became a vegetarian around 30 years ago and advises others to become a vegetarian too. In his interview with PETA, he explains how giving up meat can keep your mind sharp and help reduce the chances of Alzheimer’s disease.

At the age of 83, Barker has the record for being the oldest man to host a game show, and the oldest man to have hosted a weekday television program.

Surprisingly, he’s been on television now for 50 years.

He underwent a surgery to clear the blockage in his left carotid artery that carries blood to the brain on September 20, 1999 at George Washington University Hospital in Washington D. C.
