Joan belongs to a family with an acting background, as her father and all her four siblings are into it.

She started her career in 1985 with the popular TV show- Saturday Night Live and performed various characters in it.

After her debut Tv show, she appeared in many films- Cutting Loose (1980), My Bodyguard (1983) Class (1984), Sixteen Candles (1984), Grandview, U.S.A. (1987), The Allnighter (1987) and many others on the list.

Finally, she achieved fame globally for her role as Cyn, in the movie “Working Girl” in 1988.
